This is one Insta-worthy motel.
Say hello to Victoria’s newest retro motel: River Drive Motel. It’s no secret retro motels are undergoing a revival (check our top picks for NSW here), a blessing for those who love to road trip and get some shut eye at stylish stay along the way.
Tucked alongside the Tarwin River in South Gippsland, River Drive Motel is the brainchild of business and life partners Kate Hannaford and Dic Coastes. The team bought the run-down property in 2021 and have lovingly given it a new lease on life.

Each of the five self-contained rooms have been restored to create a contemporary stay. Forget daggy, worn-in motel furnishings, think polished chrome, custom-designed and built Victorian plantation hardwood furniture and joinery, and vintage pieces throughout. There’s two sizes of accommodation. The Snug is perfect for couples, while the Family Apartment comfortably sleeps five.

The mini bars are fully stocked with local products available to purchase like Loch Distillery & Brewery G&T, WaWa Chocolate, Gurneys Cider and more. Most of these producers are located within the Gippsland region so if you love what you taste you can always head straight to the source and stock up.

If you’re after something more substantial, River Drive Motel has partnered with local caterer Acacia Edibles. Guests can preorder grazing boxes packed with locally sourced artisan cheeses, free-range goods and seasonal produce. The box will conveniently arrive at your door at a time of your choosing.

All rooms come with complimentary high-speed WiFi, a wireless Bluetooth speaker and onsite parking for one vehicle per room. Family-friendly games, like Jenga, and a BBQ and picnic tables can be found in the communal garden area.

Rooms start at $340 per night, minimum two night stay. For more information, visit riverdrivemotel.com.au
