Do you wanna build a snowman?
Western Sydney will soon be home to Australia’s first luxury indoor snow resort, after an ambitious proposal for the new Winter Sports World development was officially endorsed by the local council this week.
That’s right, ski bunnies will only need to make the trek one hour west to experience real snow and all the awesome winter sports that come along with it.

The epic new winter wonderland is expected to include a 4.5 star hotel, an 80 metre indoor ski slope dedicated to beginners, a 300 metre ski run for advanced skiers and an Olympic sized ice skating rink.
Also on the proposal: mountaineer climbing facilities and a lavish fine dining restaurant which revolves so guests can take in the full panorama of snowy vistas.
The intramural alpine resort could attract up to 250,000 visitors each year and add approximately $80 million per annum to the Western Sydney economy, according to the developers.
It is also expected to generate around 900 new employment opportunities for Penrith.

The site for the lush new indoor ski retreat is currently a 2.3 hectare horse paddock near the Nepean River, close to the site of the new Badgerys Creek International Airport, which is due to open in 2026.
““It will be the first indoor snow resort and alpine winter attraction in Australia,” said Developer Peter Magnisalis in a statement. “We will have perfect snow under perfect skies all year round.”
Also on the plans: a snow play area, function and conference rooms, a gym and cafes.
Subject to planning approvals, the target opening date for Winter Sports World is 2024.
