‘Pondi’ is back, baby!

With temperatures soaring and Western Sydney locals feeling the heat the NSW Government has finally announced that Penrith Beach will be reopening on December 7, 2025.

More than 330,000 people looking to cool off have visited Penrith Beach since it’s  first season in 2023, so it was a no-brainer that the NSW Government invest another $5.2 million for the beach to reopen this year and next and provide locals out West a place to cool off for free.

Those living along the eastern coastline often retreat to the water when the days get too hot to handle, but there’s no such thing as going for a quick dip in Penrith. Outdoor swim spots for locals are limited. It’s 40km to get to Lake Parramatta, 63km to Bondi Beach and 75km to either Cronulla or Manly.

The man-made beach is the same length as Bondi Beach and is the first and only beach in Western Sydney. Located in Western Sydney Lakes, a former quarry, the one kilometre beach will be equipped with lifeguard services and first aid in the designated and patrolled swimming zone. The swim spot allows locals to beat the heat, minus the long travel times.

But more is set to come, with Penrith Beach potentially being stage one of a permanent waterside development. Western Sydney Lakes group has submitted a proposal for a five-star waterfront precinct with a two-storey pavilion, a pier, possible film and TV studios, a wave park and beach. In the meantime though, locals will be chuffed they have somewhere to cool off this summer.

When is Penrith Beach open?

Penrith Beach will be open 7am to 7pm from December 7, 2025 to 1 March, 2026. No entry to the beach will be permitted after 6.30pm daily.

Where is Penrith Beach?

You can find the beach at Castlereagh Road, Castlereagh, just outside of Penrith. Access to Penrith Beach is by car only, with free parking available for up to 350 cars. For more information, visit nsw.gov.au
