Do you know the muffin man? It matters not. What you do need to know is how to get your hands on that chocolatey baked goodness in Paris.

One of the hottest events at the 2024 Paris Olympics has been tracking down the chocolate muffins in the Olympic Village that have gone viral on TikTok.

Although Norwegian swimmer Henrik Christiansen placed 25th overall in the 800-metre freestyle, the self-appointed ‘Muffin Man’ has edged out in front
of his competitors with his social media content by turning the baked treat into a global sensation.

And the swimmer should win a medal for his efforts to document his consumption of the calorie-filled confection as part of his reviews of the food on offer to athletes in the Olympic Village who want to fuel up ahead of their events.

Forget about the controversial comments surrounding the Opening Ceremony. The pollution in the River Seine. Or stoushes between certain high-profile athletes. Sporting fans are now seemingly more concerned with how they can get their hands on the tasty, portable treat, which according to one of the many reels uploaded to Henrik’s TikTok feed, he has a cheeky stash of in the cabinet beside his eco-friendly cardboard bed.

Sourcing the chocolate muffins that inspired hundreds of memes has also become somewhat of a sport at the 2024 Paris Olympics. While a lot of fans have been cheering on swimmer Ariarne ‘Arnie’ Titmus and slalom canoeist Jess Fox, others have been obsessed with the fieldwork undertaken by American designer Kelin Carolyn Zhang. Thanks to Kelin’s nifty sleuthwork, the company responsible for the chocolate muffin with the cult following has been identified as Coup de Pates.

After the designer outed the business online, Coup de Pates posted an update on its LinkedIn page confirming that the muffin in question is indeed the Maxi Muffin Chocolat Intense produced by the catering arm of the company.

“We knew our Maxi Muffin with Intense Chocolate was something special… but we didn’t expect it to spark such a chocolate storm! Thank you all for the love,” the company wrote.

Wondering how to source one of the delicious delicacies if you’re not an Olympic athlete? We wish it was as simple as strolling into a pâtisserie near to the Eiffel Tower Stadium. Alas, those who want to be part of the zeitgeist while in Paris must befriend a food service professional tout de suite so they can order the maxi muffin on the company’s e-commerce site.
