The King has revealed his favourite snack. It’s about as exciting as you’d expect

King Charles

His Royal Dryness strikes again.

Our gracious King is known for his rather abstemious lifestyle. A boiled egg for breakfast. Half an avocado for lunch. No chocolate, no coffee, no garlic, shellfish or drinks from strangers. But you’d think that even he, with all his royal dough, would have some kind of secret, sinfully delicious favourite delicacy that he liked to indulge in behind palace doors.

It turns out that King Charles does have a favourite snack, but it’s about as exciting as a Coronation Quiche that likes to talk about needlepoint.

What is King Charles’ favourite snack?

At a recent royal outing to Lancashire Castle in North West England, the King met with several local food vendors who had set up stalls to showcase their produce to HRH. According to The Mirror, he spoke with a woman called Gillian Hale, who owns local business Butlers’ Farmhouse Cheeses. During their “candid chat”, the King admitted to a fondness for eating sheep’s cheese on a digestive biscuit

That’s it. No caviar. No lobster. Not even truffles on toast. Nope. Our reigning monarch likes cheese and bickies.

While he had a chance to sample the different cheeses that were on display during his visit, Charles III instead opted for just sniffing them. Which would have to take the kind of self-control that can only be learned through decades of rigid conformity to strict royal protocol. All the more cheese for us plebs, eh?

It could also have been the day of the week that the King abstains from dairy. He has previously revealed to the BBC that he avoids meat and fish for two days each week, and eschews dairy on one of those days.

What are digestive biscuits?

Digestive biscuits are a plain, semi-sweet biscuit with a crumbly texture. Originating in Scotland in the early 1800s, they got their name because the biscuits contained bicarb soda, which was believed to help with indigestion. These days, the most popular brand of digestives is McVitie’s, and their recipe doesn’t contain bicarb soda. They do have chocolate ones, though, and that makes up for everything.
