Apparently we can’t have nice things.
Singapore McDonald’s has accidentally sent shockwaves across the globe by debuting a menu item that no one knew we so desperately needed – fish nuggets. Made from Alaskan pollock, the limited-edition menu offering even comes shaped like little fishies.
Look, we’re not saying we’re jealous (we’re totally jealous), but seriously, why can’t we have them? Aren’t we, like, famous for our seafood here? Get it together, Ronald McDonald. We want our fish nuggies.
Oddly, the only dipping sauces you can get to accompany your fish nuggets are barbecue, honey mustard or curry. No tartare sauce to be seen. Madness.

Apparently Macca’s has rolled out similar menu items in the past, including Fish McBites back in 2013 (they were discontinued due to poor sales) and Fish McDippers in 2003, also discontinued. Neither of these ever made it to Australia. Why are we not surprised? We’re only an island continent entirely girt by sea. What would we want with your delicious fried fishy goodness?
To add insult to injury, Singapore Macca’s has also just added a tom yum prawn burger to the menu. Whatever, Singapore. We’ll just be over here, waiting for the McOz to come back.
There’s no word yet about whether a global rollout of fish nuggets is on the cards, but the overwhelmingly positive reaction to the new menu item bodes well for international nuggie fans. Although down here in Australia, we’re not holding our breath.
