Calling all truffle buffs.
If there’s one thing that makes winter a lot more palatable (pun very much intended), it’s all the delicious seasonal ingredients that come with it, and none are more coveted than the prized black truffle.
If you’ve got an appetite for truffles that could rival even the best truffle-hunting dog, it’s time to pop on your galoshes and pack your appetite, but you won’t have to travel far.
Because this winter, instead of hiking to Tasmania or Western Australia, east coast truffle buffs can forage for French Black Perigold truffles in the Southern Highlands.
Wild Food Adventures is hosting the Winter Truffle Hunt on Saturday July 4, 11, 18 and 25th, and they’ve extended the truffle hunting season into August after their June and July dates sold out last year.

After arriving on the truffle farm, you’ll enjoy a brief info sesh and light refreshments, before beginning your truffle hunting adventure, accompanied by Zazu (the farm’s friendly truffle dog) who will assist you in unearthing the gastronomic gems.
But there’s no need to worry if you come up short, because lunch is included, and it’s heavily inspired by our favourite tubular delight. Think baked brie with crusty bread rolls and truffle infused butternut pumpkin soup and truffle chicken en papillote with green beans, finished off with white chocolate brownies, honey gelato and truffle infused honey drizzle for dessert.
Setting off this truffle-lover’s dream menu will be cool climate wine tastings from Tertini, Centennial and Cherry Hill wineries.
A typical truffle hunting day starts at 10am and finishes around 1pm in Marulan (between Moss Vale and Goulburn in NSW), priced from $175 per person. To secure a booking, visit https://wildfoodadventures.com.au/product/truffle-hunt-with-lunch/
