Take your Highland adventure to a new level of luxury.

The Royal Scotsman, a Belmond train, has announced two new Grand Suites set to join the rake in May 2024. Designed to mirror the look and feel of an elegant country house, the suites aim to elevate your onboard experience by providing the ultimate setting for you to sit back in luxuriant comfort as you watch the cinematic Scottish Highlands landscape pass by your window.

Designer Tristan Auer has taken inspiration from both Scottish culture and its outstanding natural beauty to decorate these spacious suites. Interiors feature hues of green, grey, beige and blue, which reflect the tones of the surrounding landscape. Local materials like stone and wood are also used in the lavish ensuite bathrooms, while decorative patterns echo Edwardian flair, Pictish stones motifs and Celtic symbolism.

The double bed comes with an embossed bedhead of dark wooden wall panelling embellished with intricate marquetry, while the suites also contain a dressing table with a stool, a Scottish larch dining table, a sumptuous sofa and an armchair inspired by the Orkney Chair – an iconic piece of furniture originating in the namesake Scottish archipelago over a century ago.

If you can drag yourself away from all this opulence, there’s even an onboard spa – the only one of its kind in Europe. There are also two wood-panelled dining cars, where you can enjoy meeting your fellow travellers or watch live entertainment. Or, to really immerse yourself in Highlands life, join in on one of the off-board activities, which include wild swimming, foraging, water rafting, whiskey tastings and castle visits.

The new suites will take the train’s accommodation categories to four: Grand Suites, Double, Twin and Single cabins. A two-night Highland Journey in a Grand Suite starts from £6,000 ($10,780) per person on an all-inclusive basis. The price includes private transfers to and from hotel or airport, as well as one spa treatment per person. For more info, head to belmond.com
