Bonjour! Experience the City of Love in the heart of Sydney.
Sydney’s current hotel du jour is The Strand Hotel. Breathing new life into a 99-year-old Darlinghurst pub, this 17-room boutique hotel is a short stroll from the heart of the CBD, creating the perfect spot for a stylish stay.
George Gorrow, co-founder of cult denim brand Ksubi, has joined forces with the Public Hospitality group, lending his eye for cool to this project as creative director. Taking inspiration from The City of Love, the cosy rooms are a nod to the Parisian way of living.

No two rooms are the same, they vary in size to suit solo travellers (there are King Single rooms) and those travelling in pairs (rooms with Queen beds), but all are oozing with French charm. Rooms have been finished with lush interiors like a chic rattan bedhead, dark green velvet chairs and a sleek minimalistic bathroom, which features Grown Alchemist products and ghd styling tools.
The pièce de résistance is the De Luxe – a Queen Bed room where you’ll find a sun-drenched alcove furnished with a marble table and plush chairs. If you have emails to catch up on or want to kick-back and enjoy a Nespresso coffee, this is the place to do it.

If you’ve opted for one of the cosier rooms, head to the library to get some work done, or just to unwind. Located on level one, this communal and well-styled space is a sanctuary for hotel guests who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and take a minute to themselves. Here, coffee and tea are available all-day, and in the afternoon a bar cart is set up with the cocktail of the day for a leisurely aperitif. Santé!

Those looking for a livelier atmosphere should head to the Rooftop. From here you can take in Sydney’s glorious skyline with a cocktail in hand. The bar menu is populated with French-inspired snacks, like corn gruyere croquettes and “French kiss” Belvedere vodka with Oscietra caviar, as well as your usual bar menu suspects, like petite cheeseburgers and fried chicken.

Staying on brand, the Bistro serves up a decadent French fare. Highlights include the Pissaladière topped with caramelised onion, Ortiz anchovy and olives, the Steak tartare with burnt onion and shimeji mushrooms, and the signature Duck leg pie with braised parsnip and duck jus.

If the menu doesn’t transport you to France, the decor certainly will. The mosaic tiling, rich green velvet chairs, dark timber tables and intimate booths will have you second guessing whether you’re in Darlinghurst or Montmarte.
