Ever wondered what it’s like to race on an F1 circuit? Soon you’ll be able to find out. A motor park and resort is set to open in the Hunter Valley in 2026. The rehabilitated mine site in Teralba will feature a 5.25km driving circuit designed by global F1 track design leader, Tilke Group. 

Black Rock Motor Resort will also include go-kart racing, a driver training centre, a cafe, accommodation and a function centre. This will be Australia’s first recreation resort park dedicated to the genre of motorsport and will bring a welcome boost in jobs for the town while under construction and attract tourists to the region once completed. The site will take over the former site of Rhonda Colliery mine and will be part of the New South Wales government’s attempt to repurpose former mine sites.

But abandon all thoughts of this site being anything like a karting track. Black Rock Resort will not only offer a world-class track but also a world-class stay. Accommodation and recreational space will be luxurious in design and offer sweeping views of the track. The design is based on European, Asian and American concepts where a safe and contained road is provided to motor enthusiasts for driver training and enjoying cars. There’s no racing element at this track, so you won’t have to make like Verstappen here. 

For thrill-seekers looking to get their fix sooner, a cool new Alpine Coaster is coming to Thredbo this winter and Penrith is set to score a new indoor snow resort next year. 

While Victoria may be home to the F1 for professional drivers, New South Wales is set to become the home of the motorsport for enthusiasts thanks to Black Rock Resort.
