Good food, good wine, good friends – it’s a recipe for success at new high-profile opening, Bar Copains in Surry Hills.

The corner wine bar is a collaboration between top chefs Morgan McGlone (Belles Hot Chicken, Sunday) and Nathan Sasi (Nomad, Leigh Street Wine Room).

Named after the French word for ‘friends’, Bar Copains will serve up European-style snack plates designed for sharing with mates, alongside rare and interesting wines from the duo’s personal collection.

The former White Taro space has been given a chic fit-out by interior designer Sarah Watt that includes a curved tiled bar and terrazzo floors.

McGlone and Sasi will also be collaborating with local and international talent for a soon-to-launch ‘Bar Copains Friends’ dinner series. First up will be an event with Ed Wilson from Brawn in London on December 29.

The surrounding area has become a hot spot for hospo talent in recent years, with new openings like Gildas and Pellegrino 2000 joining local favourites like Poly, Firedoor and Nomad. Bar Copains is certainly in good company.

Bar Copains will open at 67 Albion Street, Surry Hills on December 9. For more details or to book, head to barcopains.com.
