It’s playtime! A LEGO-inspired burger joint is coming to Sydney

If they build it, we will come.

My brother and I grew up playing with LEGO. We were obsessed with the stuff – we spent hours building entire sprawling towns across the lounge room floor (sorry, Mum), sometimes even coming to blows if one sibling encroached too far into the other’s territory (sorry again, Mum).

It was serious business for a kid, and passion like that doesn’t just disappear once you grow up and get started on the even more serious business of adulting. Sometimes I’ve wished that I could just forget about all my boring responsibilities for a while (sorry, boss), and travel back to those endless afternoons of creative play.

So I’m kind of doing my block a little over the news that a LEGO-themed pop-up restaurant is coming to Sydney this September, giving me the chance to relive my childhood while getting hands-on with some brick-tastic burgers.

Restaurant concept Brick Burger lets you build your own burger from one of a selection of brightly coloured bun ‘bricks’ shaped like pieces of LEGO, with beef, chicken and vegetarian patties to choose from. But the blockbuster burger joint doesn’t just serve up food that looks like LEGO – it also has colourful brick walls and LEGO-themed furniture.

Perhaps most exciting of all, there’s even a brick-building station where you can create your own brick designs. I’ve already arranged to meet my brother for a play date, along with Mum, so she can break up any LEGO-induced fights that arise. I’m sure I’ll see many other LEGO tragics there, all keen to shake off their adult responsibilities and just act like a big kid for an afternoon.

Oh yeah, and actual kids are welcome, too.

Brick Burger will be coming to Sydney’s King Street Wharf on the weekend of September 9 and 10. Tickets are now available for $47 each and include 1 x burger and 1 x soft drink, beer or wine. To book, click here.
