First they came for the Cheds…
Snack lovers across the nation are in a state of shock after discovering that someone has been messing with The Greatest Savoury Biscuit of All Time.
Arnott’s has confirmed it has changed the recipe for its classic cheesy biscuit Cheds, after TV and radio presenter Jacqui Felgate posted an image on Instagram featuring two boxes of Cheds – one saying ‘With real pecorino cheese’ and the other saying ‘Made with real cheese’.
Felgate also shared an email from Arnott’s to a customer that said: “We confirm the Cheds recipe has changed. We are now using parmesan cheese instead of pecorino cheese.”

As cheese-fuelled outrage grew across the country, an Arnott’s spokesperson made a further statement to 7News, saying “From time to time, we need to make updates to our manufacturing processes to ensure we can continue to meet supply for consumers. As part of this, a change has been made to one of the cheeses used in Arnott’s Cheds.
“This change does not impact the taste, texture, quality or overall eating experience, and consumers can continue to enjoy the same cheesy flavour they know and love.”

However, a little biscuity investigation leads to a suspicious trail of crumbs from many a disgruntled Cheds customer in recent months. Posts on ProductReview.com.au cite “bitter disappointment” in biscuits that have “drastically changed”. Many speak of fond childhood memories of sharing Cheds with their grandparents – memories that are now but cheese dust at the bottom of a long-forgotten biscuit tin.
Will Arnott’s use this opportunity to take a cheddy good look at themselves and bring back the bickie we all know and love? Only time, and tastebuds, will tell.
