Happy new year, everyone! Welcome to April.

While most of us have started drifting back to our places of work after the Christmas break, everyone knows that the year doesn’t really begin in earnest until, like, sometime in February. Possibly March, if the weather’s been particularly nice.

In other words, we’re not in any hurry to start hurtling towards next Christmas just yet. It is, after all, only the second week of January.

So while we’ve made our peace with Boxing Day hot cross buns, we’re going to have to draw the line at Australia Day Easter eggs. Do we really need more chocolate already? Most of us still have half of our Darrell Lea Christmas stash to work through. Surely we could just take a moment to, you know, not eat something?

Supermarkets clearly disagree, as shelves full of Easter eggs are now appearing in supermarkets across the country. Who exactly is buying them remains a mystery, but clearly someone is. Possibly the Easter Bunny. In these expensive times, he’s no doubt always on the lookout for a good weekly special.

Of course, it should be noted that Cadbury Creme Eggs are an exception here, because they are perfect and should be available for free to all citizens, every day of the year.

But other than that, can we please just slow our collective roll a little? Easter will come when it’s good and ready. In the meantime, we’ve still got Valentine’s Day to get through. And everyone knows how tedious that is.

When is Easter?

For those who like to follow a calendar, in 2026, Easter falls early in April. Good Friday is on Friday, April 3; Easter Sunday is on April 5; and International Nap Day (Post-Chocolate Edition) falls on Monday, April 6.
