Food scented face masks may just be the strangest trend that the COVID-19 pandemic has produced. And that’s saying a lot, considering we’ve already been through a slew of viral food trends, including cloud bread, focaccia gardens, croissant and pancake cereal, Dalgona coffee and the whole “everything is cake” iso baking fiasco.
Several US based companies have taken to creating face masks as a unique way to promote their brands, but this week, several food brands have taken that one step further, creating face masks that contain the aroma of some of our favourite foods.

Fast food chain Jack in the Box has created a fried chicken-scented face mask as a way to promote their new plant-based Unchicken Sandwich. The chicken-scented masks are being distributed for free via special website created for the campaign.

American small goods company Hormel has also taken to creating a food-scented face mask in order to promote their bacon products. Dubbed “Breathable Bacon” the face mask is made with cloth infused with the scent of bacon, so every single breath you take will feel like breakfast on a Sunday morning.

Similarly to the Jack in the Box campaign, the Hormel masks are available for free via a special site designed to promote their Black Label Bacon.
For now, the masks are only available in the United States, but given time, we’re certain that some of our favourite Australian food brands will come up with even better ideas for food scented masks.
The Vegemite on toast scented mask, perhaps? The McOz mask? Caramilk cheesecake? What about a Bunnings sausage sanga scented mask?
