While the rest of the world (and some Australians, including yours truly) thinks that Vegemite tastes like some kind of evil sludge scraped off the bottom of an old running shoe, possibly one that’s been stewing in a quagmire somewhere for several months, its seems that Aussies just can’t get enough of the stuff. 

Not content with simple jars of the OG, consumers are now flocking to buy Vegemite & Cheese spread, Vegemite baked beans, Vegemite Shapes and even Vegemite roast chook. 

Adding to this questionable roster of yeasty treats is McCain, which has released Vegemite “Lil’ Pizzas” and pizza pockets. Is nothing sacred? It appears not; last year this website ran a recipe for Vegemite cheesecake. 

Despite my own personal antipathy towards anything brown and sludgy when it comes to food, it has to be said that the new mini pizza products make the perfect after-school snack for your own happy little Vegemites. Or you could take some to the international arrivals gate at the airport to frighten newly landed tourists.

You can find Vegemite Lil’ Pizzas and Vegemite Pizza Pockets in the freezer aisle at IGAs and other independent supermarkets.
