Here’s why train travel through Europe now costs more than flying

Personally, when it comes to travelling through Europe, I have always preferred the rails to the sky. Not only do you get to take in the countryside (albeit at speed), it’s also much more convenient. Train stations are often located in the heart of cities compared to airports, which can be up to an hour’s drive (or more) away. Historically, it’s also been the more affordable option, as it took longer than a direct flight. But that’s all changed.
