It’s a long story: this Queensland bakery is slinging 1kg sausage rolls

Challenge accepted.

While the sausage roll might not be a uniquely Australian invention, it’s fair to say that this pastry-wrapped treat is deeply embedded in Aussie culture. It’s always guaranteed to be a true-blue satisfying snack, especially if you remember the tomato sauce. But could you eat a whole 1kg one?

Queensland bakery chain Kenilworth Bakery – which has outlets in Kenilworth, Mooloolaba and Bribie – is serving a goliath one-kilo sausage roll, and will even give it to you for free… if you can eat it all in one sitting, in store. The 20 fastest eating times make it onto the bakery’s ‘Top Gear’ leaderboard.

The same deal goes for the bakery’s 1kg doughnuts – which come in jam & cream, Nutella & cream, custard & cream, beesting and Gaytime flavours. And if you finish one of these whoppers, you’ll also get a personalised signed plate to hang on their wall of fame.

For those who can’t quite face a whole kilo of food in one sitting, you could always opt for the 800g chocolate or strawberry snake doughnuts. Just a light snack in comparison, really.

But if you’re watching your waistline slightly more marginally, there are normal-sized bakery treats to choose from, too. And if you need a caffeine hit along with your sugar high, there’s even a coffee in a doughnut available. It’ll probably keep you going all day. Until the 3pm slump hits, anyway.
